AREAS OF OVERSIGHT
COUNSELING & CARE: Offers biblically-based counsel, helps coordinate care ministries, and equips others for relational care.
All pastors speak regularly with individuals, couples, and families in need of counsel, support, encouragement, and care. The pastor who has oversight of these efforts draws upon additional training in counseling practice in order to come alongside those in need, with the goal of freeing them to respond more readily to the Lord’s calling and to live a life that reflects Him to others. Core functions include: providing counsel to others in a comprehensive way, particularly for those in the most challenging circumstances and/or over a longer period of time; equipping others in the body who are gifted in mercy and have a passion for relational counseling; and coordinating other aspects of care for those in need. Accordingly, this pastor also works closely with the Benevolence Team, the Meals ministry, and the Prayer Response Team.
EQUIPPING DISCIPLES: Promotes effective disciple-making both within and beyond the church, while seeking to invest proactively in other disciple-makers.
All pastors embrace the call to make disciples and to equip those in the church to be disciple-makers. The pastor who has oversight of these efforts is responsible to evaluate and promote processes of effective disciple-making among the entire church body, so that God’s kingdom will continue to expand in the Capital Region and beyond. Core functions include: devoting time to invest in others who are (or are becoming) disciple-makers; consistently examining the church’s approaches to discipleship and assessing their long-term effectiveness; and maintaining an appropriate balance between local, regional, and international disciple-making efforts. Accordingly, this pastor also works closely with the Missions Team and the leaders of OAC’s Connection Groups.
MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT: Regularly assesses OAC ministries in order to refine and/or enhance them for long-term fruitfulness, as well as oversees the personnel and financial structures of the church.
The pastor who has oversight of ministry development has a focus on regularly assessing both the broad scope of ministries at OAC as well as their individual framework, with a constant intentionality to enhance, refine, simplify, and structure them in a way that promotes the long-term viability and organizational health of the church. Core functions include: being involved in the ongoing developmental processes of a wide variety of ministries; partnering with the other pastors in the support and evaluation of staff; and managing both the personnel and financial resources of the church. Accordingly, this pastor also works closely with the Personnel Team and the Finance Team.
